~ Mitsubishi Will Sell Electric Vehicles In The US - When?
Mitsubishi Motors will sell a small electric car here in the US, it’s President announced.
Mitsubishi Motors has partnered with Tokyo Electric to develop this hybrid electric car which will be introduced first Japan and then later released in the US.
These vehicles will feature lithium-ion batteries and in-wheel motors both of which the company has been working on for years. They also plan to use the in-wheel motors on future hybrid and fuel cell cars as well.
Mitsubishi unvieled this at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
The Concept-CT MIEV is a bit smaller than the Lancer, has four doors, all-wheel drive and a 1.1-liter gasoline engine. Each wheel has its own electric motor. The electric motors provide all wheel drive without a traditional transmission, thus cutting weight.
Mitsubishi President Osamu Masuko stated: . . . . .
“From an environmental standpoint, we believe the electric car is the way to go because it has zero emissions. Fuel cell technology is still off in the future. Diesels are big in Europe but not in Japan and the U.S.”
